Homeopathic Dog Sedatives?
Hi, in January, I am bringing my italian greyhound to Albuquerque with me. We are going by airline. Because he is small enough, he is going as a carry-on bag, so he will be up in the cabin with me. The problem is, he isn't very comfortable with crates. Does anyone know of a homeopathic remedy I can give him to help take some of the edge off? The flight will be about 1 hr and 45 mins. I plan to contact our vet, when they are open, I was just hoping for some suggestions. Thanks for your help, and have a happy holiday!

Give him a regular Benedryl capsule in his food. It really makes them drowsy for sure.

Probably best just to get a chemical sedative from the vet, or the dosage for Benadryl (yes, the antihistamine... also causes drowsiness, mind). Otherwise, if you really want to go all natural, chamomile works like a charm (but make sure it's not mixed with any actual tea)... pretty much impossible to give too much, but may be a good idea to test it first (just a week before keep giving him some until he's as drowsy as you want him, note the amount and you're good to go). If you're cool with it, a small amount of marijuana (an indica, not a sativa!!!), about 1/8-1/4 teaspoon per 20 lbs of weight, depending on how relaxed you want him (the note: the more relaxed, the more likely he is to "fight it", so it's best to go with a low dose if you're not sure how he'll respond), works quite well (but again - test it first, in a controlled environment!).

You could try Rescue Remedy or Calms Forte. I have never used either for this purpose. I would be more inclined to spend time getting him used to being crated before the time comes.
