Homeopathic Dog Sedatives?
Hi, in January, I am bringing my italian greyhound to Albuquerque with me. We are going by airline. Because he is small enough, he is going as a carry-on bag, so he will be up in the cabin with me. The problem is, he isn't very comfortable with crates. Does anyone know of a homeopathic remedy I can give him to help take some of the edge off? The flight will be about 1 hr and 45 mins. I plan to contact our vet, when they are open, I was just hoping for some suggestions. Thanks for your help, and have a happy holiday!

I found some things at my local pet store. You may want to have him spend some time in the crate to get accustomed to it. Get him as used to it as possible.

Homeopathic potions are just as useless for animals as they are for humans, so save your money. It's better to know this now, than to rely on them, and then have to deal with a freaked out dog for a couple hours. You have lots of time to get your dog used to the carry on before the flight. Start by just having it out on the floor, and allow the dog to get used to it. Put some favorite toys or treats in it. Eventually he will associate it with those things. Start by having him sit in it for a few minutes, then reward with play or a treat. Gradually increase the time. Most dogs eventually learn to like the crates/kennels because it is their own private space. I've crate trained a series of small dogs for years this way and never had a problem with them on a plane, even a very hyper Yorkie. EDIT Cyndian. Magic water doesn't work for dogs or anybody. Homeopathy is an "art form" like smearing fecal matter is an art form. It is still fecal matter.

Homeopathic remedies are different from one dog to the next so you'd have to have a session with a homeopath to find the right one. They would work up a remedy based on your dog's personality and symptoms. I've used them before and if you hit the right one they work very well (don't let anyone tell you they don't work). It is an art form basically However, I don't know if this is a proper use of a remedy, especially if your dog doesn't like crates. There is a good chance he's going to freak on you. Do some crate training now to overcome that. Are you sure he's small enough to fit in the cabin with you? Have you looked into Rescue Remedy? It's not homeopathic but does work well at calming dogs.

Herbal and homeopathic remedies have shown to highly effective in supporting the digestive and nervous system during car trips or traveling by train or air. Carefully selected herbs such as Zingiber officinalis (Ginger) and Mentha piperita (Mint) helps to support digestive system health and balance. Homeopathic ingredients such as Kalium phosphate, Aconite, Cocculus, and Pulsatilla vulgaris soothes the stomach and nervous system, and also facilitates a comfortable traveling experience.
